Latasha Coney (2005)

LaTasha Coney played varsity volleyball and varsity basketball all four years of high school at Lyons Central School.

LaTasha was named to the All-League Team in volleyball all four years, 3^rd team as a freshman, 2^nd Team as a sophomore and 1^st team during her junior and senior years. In her freshman year, the team went 14-2, losing in the Section V Class DDD finals. In her sophomore year, the team went 15-3, won the Wayne County league title for the first time since 1984 and again played in the sectional finals. 

Her junior year, the team was again league champions, but lost in sectionals, going,15-5. During LaTasha’s senior year, everything came together. The team had a league record of 14-0 with an overall record of 20-2.  They defeated Clyde-Savannah three times, the last time to win the Section V Volleyball title for the first time in school history. Tasha was named Player of the Year and Sectional MVP. She led the team in kills and aces.

LaTasha also excelled in basketball, where she played point guard. Her freshman year, the team had a perfect 16-0 record in Wayne County.  During her sophomore year, the team had an overall record of 21-2.  They won the league title and made it to the finals in sectionals. LaTasha was a Class C All Star Tournament selection.  During her senior year, LaTasha averaged 20 points, 6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game.  She led the Lady Lions to a Section V title and a spot in the NYS Final Four. She was named Class CC Sectional MVP.  LaTasha was named twice to the Finger Lakes Fab 5, was Player of the Year in 2004-2005 and was selected for the All-Greater Rochester First Team in 2004-2005.

After high school, LaTasha went to William Smith and played basketball all four years. LaTasha contributed in all areas of the game; points, assists, steals and rebounds.  She was named Liberty League Guard of the Week, RACA Female Athlete of the Week, ECAC Upstate Player of the Week and her school was named D3hoops.com National Team of the Week.

Latasha currently lives in Canandaigua with her three sons, Jayden, Julius, and Josiah. She has worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs and various other government agencies dealing with mental illness and alcohol and opiate addiction. Latasha has currently been accepted into the Medaille College 2020 Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology.

Timothy Disanto (1982)

Tim DiSanto was a three-sport athlete playing football, basketball and baseball for Lyons Central School. Tim was on the varsity football team his junior and senior years. As a senior, he was named to 2^nd Team Finger Lakes West as a guard and to 1^st Team as a linebacker. 

Tim was a guard in basketball in his junior and senior years. During his junior year, the team were Wayne County Champions with a record of 23-1. They were also Section V Class B champs.  Their only loss came in the first round of States.  In Tim’s senior year, the team again were the Wayne County Champions and Section V Class B champs with a record of 25-1. Their only loss was in the state finals. Tim was MVP of the Waterloo Tip-Off Tournament and the team co-MVP and assist leader with 11 per game.  He was named to the Section V Class B All-Tournament Team and the NYS Class C All-Tournament Team.

Tim finished his career at Lyons playing baseball.  His junior year, he was a pitcher and played 3^rd base.  His senior year, he pitched and played in the infield.  He was named to the Wayne County 1^st Team All-League as a second baseman. Tim was named 1982 Co-Senior Male Athlete of the Year.

After high school, he played basketball at Cayuga Community College.  He earned degrees from CCC, Nazareth, Brockport and Oswego.  He has coached baseball and basketball at Harley-Allendale Columbia, East Rochester, Midlakes, Victor, Keuka College and RIT.  Tim was named Finger Lake East Coach of the Year in 2004 while coaching at Victor.

Tim currently lives in Victor and teaches Special Education at Victor Primary School. He was married for 24 years to his wonderful wife Julie and is the proud father of sons TJ and Jacob and daughter Lauren.

Ed Foster (1975) 

Ed "Snake" Foster played football, basketball and participated in track during his high school career at Lyons Central School. Ed was a starter on the varsity football team his senior year.  He was a wide receiver on offense and defensive end on defense for the Lyons Lions.

During his sophomore year, Ed broke the school record for the high jump with a leap of 6'1". In his junior year, he broke his own record with a jump of 6’2”. He also set a school record for the high hurdles with a time of 15.4 seconds. He went on to win the Section V Class B high jump and placed third in the 110 high hurdles. Ed went on to excel in his senior year.  He again broke his own records with a high jump of 6’3” and a high hurdles time of 14.9. 

He also ran on the very successful 880-yard relay team.  Ed and teammate Curtis Moody both went to the state meet, which was the first time in Lyons history that 2 men qualified for states. Ed was also County Champion in the high jump and high hurdles for the second time in two years.

Ed also excelled in basketball. He was named a 1^st Team All-League player as a junior and a senior. He averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds per game his junior year. During his senior year, Lyons won the Sectional Championship. That team, the 1974 Boys’ Basketball team, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007. Ed averaged over 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. His versatility led him to be named to the 1975 Wayne County Basketball League All-Star team. He was the only unanimous choice by the nine league coaches.

Ed currently resides in Newark and just recently retired.

Walter 'Junior' Kemp (1989)

Walter "Junior" Kemp was a three-sport athlete during his years at Lyons Central School. He played three years of varsity basketball, baseball and football. He was captain of both the basketball and baseball teams in his junior and senior years.

In baseball, Junior was awarded Best Defensive Player (1988) and Best Defensive Outfielder (1989). He was named First Team Centerfield Wayne County All-Star in 1989. Junior won the top receiver award and the Black Glove Award in football in 1988.

He was voted All-League during his junior and senior years in football, basketball and baseball. His senior year, he was on the 3^rd Team All-Greater Rochester and the Rochester Super 15 for basketball. The team was State and Federation Champions in 1989 with a record of 28-1. Junior held the national leading scorer, Marcus Whitfield (46 points per game) to only 13 points to advance to the State Semi-Finals. Junior was the all-time assist leader in school history with 636.

After high school, Junior went on to play basketball at Monroe Community College for two years with a record of 54-8.  He was named Defensive Player of the Year his sophomore year.  Junior then moved on to Roberts Wesleyan and led them to the best record in school history with 24 wins. He was named to All Region/League honors and received Honorable All-American honors averaging 18 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals per game. Junior graduated with a degree in Sociology.

Junior has continued his involvement in athletics. He has coached numerous AAU basketball teams and high school teams including baseball, basketball, soccer and football.  He also coached high school girls basketball and was the Women's Head Coach at FLCC.

Junior currently resides in Irondequoit. He owns Kemp Youth Sports Epic Elite Athletics and is a social worker for the National Call Center for Suicide Prevention for Veterans and Active Military.  He is the proud father of Derrick (24), Drae (23), Drew (17), Donovan (11) and adoptive son Frankie Coney.                   

Alexandra (Leo) Gamble (2006) 

Alexandra "Lexi" Leo was a three-sport athlete for all four years at Lyons High School. Freshman year, she played soccer, basketball and softball. For the next three years, she participated in soccer, indoor track and outdoor track.  She graduated in 2006 as Salutatorian and Female Athlete of the Year.

In soccer, Lexi was 5^th in Wayne County in points with 10 goals and 4 assists in her junior year. She was selected for the Section V All-Star Europe touring team in 2005, playing in Germany and the Netherlands.  Her senior year, Lexi was the team captain, the MVP and a Wayne County Soccer All-League first team selection.

Lexi truly excelled in track, both indoor and outdoor.  She is the current Lyons High School record holder for the indoor 1000m, 1500m, 3000m and 4x800 relay. She is the Lyons outdoor track record holder in the 1500m, steeple chase and 3000m.  Lexi was named Outstanding Athlete at the 2006 Canal Cup Meet.  She was the 2006 Section V champion for the indoor 1500m and outdoor 3000m. She was a Wayne County First Team All-League Selection from 2004-2006, and a Section V All-Greater Rochester First Team Selection in 2006.  She was a 2006 State Finalist in the 3000m.

After high school Lexi attended SUNY Geneseo. She was a member of the SUNY Geneseo Women’s Soccer Championship Finalist Team. In 2006, she toured Brazil representing Geneseo Varsity Soccer and was a member of the Northeast Regional Collegiate Summer Team.

Alexa is a member of the Revolution Running Club in Denver. Her goal is to complete all of the World Major Marathons.  She has already competed in Chicago, New York City, Berlin, Boston and London, setting a new personal record each time. She only needs Tokyo to accomplish her goal.

Lexi earned a B.S. in Biology and a Masters Degree in Physician Assistant studies.  She is currently a Musculoskeletal Radiology Physician Assistant at the University of Colorado.  Alexandra is a newlywed, marrying Ryan Gamble on August 24, 2019.  She and her new husband live in Denver with their cat, Gidget and their dog, Moose.

Russell Watson (1980)

Russel graduated from Lyons Central School District in 1980 and was named Male Athlete of the Year.  He wore # 84 during his football career.  In 1979, he was selected as First Team Fingerlakes West Offensive Split End and Second Team Finger Lakes West Defensive Back, and All-Greater Rochester Honorable Mention Split End.  He was also the team kicker, doing both kickoffs and punts.  He still holds the school record for the longest punt of 72 yards against Mynderse Academy his Junior Year.  He received The Albert S. Atwood Award and The Player With Unlimited Desire "PUD" Award.

Russel played on the 1979-80 State Championship Basketball Team. During basketball, he received the Player With Unlimited Desire Award.

Russel ran varsity track for all four years of high school. During his junior year, he set a school record and won sectionals in the 440 yard dash with a time of 52.5 seconds, and high jumped 6'2".  He also ran a 22.9 second split on the Section V State Meet 880 yard Relay Team, with a county and school record of 1:31.8.  During his senior year, he won sectionals in the 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles. He was the MVP of the track team.

Russel ran track in college at Herkimer CCC, where he established the 4 x 400 Relay school record of 3:26.7, with a 50.9 second split.  He also won the Region III Championships with a 15.8 second 110 high hurdles time.

In 1989, he received his Associates in Science Degree from Herkimer CCC, and his Bachelors in Science from SUNY Brockport in 1991.  In 1997, he received his Master in Science in Adapted Physical Education with Teacher Certification.

In June 1995, Russel married his wife, Karen, a paralegal, and they have two wonderful daughters, Sarah (a Federal Agent and Adjunct Professor at FLCC) and Jessica (an Attorney and Law Clerk), and four grandchildren. Russ and Karen live in Marbletown (outside of Newark) with their 3 whippets, a Russian wolfhound, a cat and 4 chickens.  He has coached Track and Field for the past 28 years, and currently works at Clyde Savannah CSD. 

1969 Wayne County Sectional Golf Team 

In the past, golf sectionals were done by county rather than individual schools. In the spring of 1969, all high schools in Wayne County played a qualifier round at the Newark Country Club.  The four lowest individual scores qualified and made up the team which would represent Wayne County in the Section V Golf Championship.

The four student-athletes were Jeff Boice, Tim Coluzzi and Bob Santelli, all from Lyons and Jim Witt from Newark. This team then played all of the other counties from Section V, including Monroe and Seneca.  The Wayne County team defeated every other county, with an 8 stroke win over the closest rival.  This was the only time Wayne County ever won the Section V Golf Championship and three of the four team members were from Lyons.

Members of the team also won individual awards. The American Legion Golf Award was given to Jeff Boice in 1968-1969, Bob Santelli in 1969-1970 and Tim Coluzzi in 1970-1971.

1996-1997 Lyons Girls Basketball Team

What an exciting year it was for girls basketball in Lyons. This team won the first ever sectional championship game, beating Cal-Mum 52-48 to claim the Section V Class CC title. The game came down to the wire with eighth grade Janitha Knight and senior Amy Maslyn sinking free throws to seal the victory.

The girls’ record for the year was 16-2 in the league and 16-4 overall. They earned the #1 seed for the sectionals with 82 total points and a 4.10 seeding point average. It was a season of close games, winning two games in overtime the same week, defeating larger schools Pal-Mac and North Rose-Wolcott.

Receiving honors for the team was Breynn Trombino who was voted first team all Wayne County, MVP of the CC tournament, nominated to the Finger Lakes Times Fab Five and earned the opportunity to play in the Ronald McDonald Exceptional Seniors game in Rochester.  Junior, Staci Bartishevich was named a member of Section V CC All-Tournament team.  Seniors, Kara Barclay and Amy Maslyn, were nominated to play in the Wayne County Exceptional Seniors game.  Eighth grader, Janitha Knight, was named all Wayne County Honorable Mention. 

Coach Jim Miller received Honorable Mention as the Finger Lakes Times Coach of the Year and had the honor of coaching the Ronald McDonald Exceptional Seniors game.

Coach Miller and Assistant Coach/JV Coach, Paul DiSanto were especially proud of all the members of this team and their accomplishments that season.
